The “Rockland Homes For Heroes” is a Rockland County Not-For-Profit Charity created to help end veteran homelessness in the 6 Mid-Hudson Counties of Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess, Putnam, & Westchester served by the Veterans Administration’s Hudson Valley Montrose Health Care System. We currently operate 8 Supportive Apartments for homeless veterans at 355 Western Highway In Tappan and plan on building 12 more in 2019.
The property is hallowed land, the last parcel of the iconic former “Camp Shanks-Last Stop USA”, America’s largest WW II Port of Embarkation for our young GIs leaving America to fight the nazi army in Europe from D-Day in Normandy, France to Berlin, Germany. Many never came home to America. We hope our homes will be a living memorial.
