On May 19th, the New City Rotarians hosted, under the leadership of former Rockland County Family Court Judge Will Warren, who is on the Rockland Homes for Heroes [RHFH] Charity Board of Directors, a fundraiser at the Bolzanos Italian Restaurant in Congers to help the charity end veteran homelessness in our community.
A check for $6,728.31 was presented to RHFH as a contribution to help add 14 more permanent affordable supportive apartments on the iconic WW II “Last Stop USA” Camp Shanks in Tappan, for what we hope will be a Living Tribute to those 1.3 million GIs who left Camp Shanks to fight the nazi army.
The Rotarians initiative triggered additional contributions from “Gary Gutter Service” (Gary is well know for his generous contributions to many community charities) of $350 and a very personal gift of $50 from Karen Asch.
In addition to hosting a really fun gathering and raising the money, many of the Rotarians visited the site where construction will start in the next 90 days to see its beginning. The new buildings will be built on the foundation of buildings abandoned a quarter of a Century ago.
