Joe D’Urso, the Creator/Producer of the Annual June Bergen & Rockland Musical Festival at the Masonic Park in Tappan, is owed a public debt of gratitude by Rockland Homes For Heroes, providing local affordable supportive housing for displaced and disabled Veterans in Tappan.
Since the start of the Festival, Joe has invited 15 local charities to host “Meet & Greet” tables in the entrance to the Park for free. Rockland Homes For Heroes has always been included.
This year the Rockland Homes For Heroes table was organized by the heads of our Volunteer Committee, Leslie Crunden of Tappan and Margaret Fitzpatrick of New City (and we also get Margaret’s husband Pete, a USAF Veteran as a bonus). They recruited the following volunteers to serve as guest hosts:
- Karen Peterman
- Carl Dornbush, a Director of Rockland Homes For Heroes
- Joseph Chabot
- Eileen Murphy
- Joanne Cancro
They were joined by two of our resident Veterans, Curtis & Michael, shown in the photos below with Leslie and Eileen. Michael brought his Service dog, Billy, who stole the show.
Besides hosting, 50-50 Raffle tickets were sold and Active International contributed $500 to every charity. perfect weather, great music and a warm welcome from everyone.
